18/5/13 A Gudina ➡ Campobecerros 20km

18/5/13  A Gudina ➡ Campobecerros 20km

Rainy start to the day so the new poncho was whipped out.
Then it was up the mountain and there we experienced a dense heavy fog. As we ascended the fog slowly lifted and the views were spectacular. Back on the camino today but the camino was on the road a lot.
We went through a few villages of about 4-5 houses only and being a Saturday of course nothing was open, but these little villages had no bar anyway.

The walk was really nice once the rain and fog stopped. We were treated to some wind at the top of the hill and I thought Cristy and her poncho were going to take flight.  We had a little pit stop after 3 hours of walking and then back on the road to tackle a huge up hill and then huge down hill into the town. I really hate the up hill sections and Cristy hates the down hill sections, so I'm hoping there aren't too many more.

When we arrived at the Hostal we were staying at, the local Albergue is closed and Cristy made a booking for the 4 of us, we were told that the beds would not be ready until 5 in the afternoon.  We had arrived by 12.30.

The Hostal feeds the workers who are building the high speed train tunnels and once they were all fed then they would organise our rooms. Lunch here is from 1-3 pm so we had a long wait. We decided to have lunch whilst we waited. The owner preceded to go slowly about her business serving customers but not preparing our rooms. She had offered for us to stay in a private house, but we declined.

After lunch we were all tired and Brigette went for a walk as she was getting annoyed as they were not doing anything to get our rooms sorted. She came back to say she had found the place they were offering us to go if we  didn't want to wait, so we decided to go to the private home for lodging.

We will one day laugh hard about this, but at the moment we are still slightly traumatised.
None of us has had a shower as it is far too cold. I am currently in bed with both thermal tops on, thermal leggings, socks and my buff trying to keep warm. Cristy actually has her beanie, gloves and full set of clothes on.

We were sitting around the wood fire stove, just after the landladies lovey husband had kindly come in and stoked the fire up. The mother in law prior to this had given us a big basket of wood. Well the landlady came in ranting and raving and saying we were going to burn the place down, even though we told her the husband had done it. She takes all the wood from us and leaves a very small amount of wood to burn.
Hence we have all gone to bed early to get warm.

I think we will be leaving here ASAP tomorrow to go to the nice Albergue in Laza.
